Toddlers Class (1 year old - 2 years old)
As infants mature and become toddlers, we continue to stimulate their senses and encourage them to explore their world. Your child will learn such skills as pushing and pulling objects, turning and bending, sorting objects by color and size, exploring the concept of big and little, and building an early vocabulary.
At this stage, your toddler will start to experience a somewhat more structured classroom routine. He or she will start to learn valuable skills such as taking direction from adults other than parents, how to co-exist with other children in a learning environment, and how to share.
Our staff understands the challenges that one-year-olds face in a social learning setting, and have experience in helping them adjust to the give and take of the classroom environment.
Although parts of the toddler's day is structured and teacher directed, much of their day is spent engaged in "free play". Free play allows the child to choose what he/she would like to play with. We believe that children learn best when involved in activities that interest them the most. We encourage such learning by observing each child individually and creating opportunities within the child's interest to enhance the experience. We will introduce your toddler to toilet training to get them ready for the next age group. This is a very nurturing class with lots of learning and love!

2-Year Olds
The care that children receive and their experiences during the first 3 years of life have a powerful influence on how they view the world, how they relate to others, and their ability to succeed as learners. Our privilege as Early Childhood Educators is to have a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of very young children and their families. Caring for children under 3 is too important to leave to chance. Our teachers are always prepared for what they do each day in their work with children. That is why we use developmentally appropriate CREATIVE CURRICULUM. A curriculum is like a roadmap; it helps us get where we want to go. It includes goals and objectives for children's learning in all areas of development: social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language. CREATIVE CURRICULUM explains all aspects of a developmentally appropriate program and leads us through the process of planning and implementing every aspect of caring for and teaching our 2 year olds. All the above outlines are carefully used to create age appropriate activities in the 2 year old classroom. Our interaction between the children and the adults encourages the development of attachment and the resolution of separation problems. A variety of program activities are suggested to foster development in all the senses, motor abilities, and social development. We provide healthful opportunities for social adjustments, help them consider the rights of others, share, and stand up for their own rights in socially accepted ways. We strive to reduce tendencies towards shyness and teach the children to cooperate, but still maintain individuality. We do potty training with the help and support from the parents.
3-Year Olds
At this stage of development your child learns primarily through exploration using all of the five senses. They develop their logical reasoning skills as they play. They are able to sort, identify, and classify objects as well as many new academic abilities. At this age, it is important for your child to socialize with other children and form friendships with others. St. Pete Prep Learning Center provides great opportunities for social growth and independence.Your child's day will be filled with lots of fun hands-on activities that will start to prepare them for Pre-kindergarten. We believe in an emotional, social and intellectual approach to learning fundamentals such as language, writing, dramatic play and circle time. Children must be completely potty trained before entering our 3 year old program. Parents must provide an extra set of clothes, as accidents do happen.es on desktop.
Pre- Kindergarten Class (VPK)
St Pete Prep is actively involved in the process to help children develop the emergent literacy skills they need to become successful students. Our involvement goes way back since the state of Florida offered free 3 hours of Voluntary Pre Kindergarten for all 4 year olds regardless of family income. The Florida VPK Educational Standards is a guidance to prepare our children for Kindergarten. The skills included in the Education Standards are typically demonstrated by children by the end of VPK. These standards are grouped around seven areas of development. We choose to offer the School Year VPK program (540 Hours) that will begin late in August and will end in early May of the

following year with one week off during winter break. For the families that need full time care we offer wrap around care with free VPK. We start to plan for VPK in early spring so we can save the spots for the children that have already attended our program. Please make it your first priority to get the Certificate of Eligibility and turn it in as soon as possible so we can reserve the spot for your child. For more information on how to get the certificate please click on the VPK link below or call us and we will be happy to help. VPK stands for the Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program. If you live in Florida, and your child turns 4 four years of age by September 1, your child is eligible to participate in Florida's FREE Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) education program. For more information, please visit: Early Learning Colalition of Pinellas VPK site.
